HOUSING
THE NEW GOVERNMENT WILL ABOLISH THE REGIONAL SPATIAL STRATEGY (see below) TO WHICH STRATFORD SDC WAS ADHERING TO, TO FORMULATE THE HUGE HOUSING NUMBERS PROPOSED FOR STRATFORD. WE WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED ON EVENTS.
Stratford Voice are opposed to plans for yet more housebuilding in Stratford. The Town Poll held at our instigation clearly demonstrated that there is massive opposition to yet more housebuilding. On other Webpages you will find details of Shottery - go here, and for Kipling Road go here. The map of what is planned for the whole of Stratford can be seen by opening this link - be prepared to be horrified by the sheer extent of the urban sprawl proposed by our District Council !!
The SDC consultation Document can be seen here, but it is a very large document (106 pages).
Our response to the last District Council's proposals are detailed below. It would appear that the Council are determined for yet more house building, on a massive scale, in Stratford, as reported above.
As noted in our response below the Consultation carried out by SDC has not been considered, or mentioned, in any way. It clearly shows that these additional (which is the numbers above the already planned 5600) houses, if the Regional Spatial Strategy demands, should be a new settlement, not yet more houses for Stratford. The results of that consultation can be seen here. (please note this file may take a while to download - please be patient!!)
MEDIA BRIEFING FROM STRATFORD VOICE
COUNCIL FORGE AHEAD WITH NEW HOUSING
Revised Draft Core Strategy is Published for Consultation
The District Councils Cabinet decided, on 8th Feb, to commence a public consultation on a revised Draft Core Strategy.
Martyn Luscombe, Chairman of Stratford Voice, says This document demonstrates that the ruling Conservative group are hell-bent on massive further house building in Stratford. They cannot blame imposed Government targets for this as the Government has still not made up its mind on how many houses it wants [n.b. The Secretary of State is yet to comment on the recommendations of the Regional Spatial Strategy Panel Report]. Furthermore, the phasing in the revised draft shows that construction would be weighted towards the earlier years of the plan, whereas the RSS Panel Report recommends backloading towards the later years up to 2026.
There is absolutely no need to press ahead in this way. The District Councils Cabinet were offered the option of holding back the release of a revised Draft Core Strategy until after the General Election, at which time we may have a different Government, one which has promised an entirely new planning regime. Its not long to wait, but Cabinet rejected this option and decided to forge ahead now.
Residents have expressed over and over again their opposition to further large scale housing development in Stratford but the District Council are simply not listening. They did not even bother to analyse the results of a consultation they carried out last autumn on where any additional housing should be located before drawing up this document. Its an absolute disgrace.
Of course its not just the town thats affected; under this plan large numbers of additional houses would be built throughout the whole district.
The revised Draft Core Strategy will now be open to comments from the public until 31st March and I hope that residents will make their views known yet again. No matter how sceptical we may be about the amount of notice the Council will take of our views, we shouldnt allow them to be able to claim that no one objected.

I would like to say how Stratford definitely does not need more houses, but instead needs some investment in the town to allow the empty shops to reopen and resemble the beautiful town that it was.
How a town like Stratford which relies so heavily on tourists can justify closing the tourist information centre is beyond belief.
Think again!

Every body must vote at the next Local Council Election to remove these Conservative Councillors who appear hell bent on making Stratford the last place any one would want to live. I am constantly horrified at the waste caused by duplication of jobs in the Local & District Councils. We the Council Tax payers are funding all these jobs. Now is the time to get some co-ordination and to SAVE money - something our Council doesn't seem to understand.

All this planning should be put on hold until after the General Election. Hopefully our new MP will have more interest in the locality than the retiring member, and will take notice of the residents wishes and relay their feelings to the Council, rather than than supporting developers and builders. The town
is becoming like the Marie Celeste. I have only lived here for a few years but Stratford has declined so much that I can hardly recognise the beautiful area
I thought I had moved to.
Unless the town is resurrected we shall have no tourists except serious Shakespeare students, and they are few and far between.

This just demonstrates, yet again, the Council's utter contempt for Stratford Residents. By rushing this through, without need, this will give the greedy developers, who care not a jot for our once beautiful town, the green light yet again, and the chance to finish the desecration and destruction they have started.!!
The Conservatives have lost all credibility with residents and the sooner we get rid of this incompetent useless lot, especially Topham, the developers friend, the better !! It DOES make one wonder why the Conservatives are so developer friendly !!

This is an absolute disgrace !! Its about time the Council started LISTENING to residents. It appears that they are on the developers side every time - I wonder why ??!!
